Bursaries

The Caroline Trust supports young pilots to achieve their gliding goals.

If you are over 13, under 16 and need help to fund your gliding training, the Caroline Trust can offer help for you to go solo, get a badge, become an instructor, do your first competition or achieve some other specific objective.

The Royal Aero Club Trust, as part of its Flying for Youth program administers a Bursary Scheme for young people.

Bursaries include The President’s Award (two bursaries each worth up to £750), a further bursary worth up to £1,000 (The Peter Cruddas Foundation Scholarship), the Breitling Bursary also worth up to £750, the MacRobert Trust Bursaries (two bursaries each worth up to £500, and the Bramson Bursary also worth up to £500 as well as a number of additional bursaries worth up to £500 each to suitable candidates.

Applicants for these grants must hold British Citizenship and be permanently resident in UK and aged 14-21 years.

The Trustees of the Philiip Wills Memorial Fund award up to 20 scholarships, each typically worth up to £500. The scholarships are aimed at helping post-solo development in younger pilots, up to age 30.

The Honourable Company of Air Pilots is offering 5 Gliding Scholarships from the Young Air Pilots Group and 2 from The Air Pilots Flying Club. Application forms available from their website from 1st January 2016.

The British Women Pilots Association offers gliding scholarships for solo pilots wanting to undertake aerobatic or cross-country training. Application deadlines usually in October.
