Raising aspirations sky high!
In 2016, Lincolnshire Gliding Club hosted several activities to introduce a new audience to the amazing world of gliding and the opportunities it offers to engage people with science, technology, engineering and maths, or STEM for short.
Gliding is a proven route into careers in commercial and military aviation, and develops transferable skills such as decision-making, team work and following safe working practices.
The Wright Stuff
This day of activities involved working as a team to build (assemble) a glider and then to take it apart and put it safely back into its trailer. It also involved an opportunity to fly a glider simulator made from an actual cockpit of a two-seater training aircraft.
High Flying Girls
In 2016 and in 2017, a series of days were held to attract teenage girls in to the sport and to introduce them to women from a range of careers and stimulate conversations about possible future directions.
Secondary schools and youth groups took part, and further events are planned for 2018 and beyond.
